RYCO

The Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) is an independently functioning institutional mechanism, founded in 2016 by the prime ministers of the Western Balkans 6 (WB6): Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. RYCO’s work centers on promoting the spirit of reconciliation and cooperation between the youth in the region through youth exchange programs and capacity-building training with teachers, peer educators and civil society organizations that work for and with youth. Supporting youth, teachers and civil organizations in the region to engage, progress and learn, stands at the core of RYCO’s mission and aims for a better Western Balkan region.

RYCO is strengthening the capacities of voluntary and professional workers and teachers who empower young people by offering them knowledge, education and various activities in the fields of intercultural learning, peacebuilding, reconciliation and dealing with the past.

UNICEF

Education is crucial to peacebuilding and to fostering more cohesive societies. Education is arguably the single most transformative institution that can touch every citizen, female and male, when it is equitably available, good quality, relevant and conflict-sensitive. It forms the bedrock of a country's economy, good governance, gender equality, identity and culture. UNICEF contributions of education to peacebuilding are wide ranging and are present globally in many countries where UNICEF is present.

Through the project “ Supporting the Western Balkan's collective leadership on reconciliation: building capacity and momentum for the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), UNICEF intends to contribute towards enhancing regional cooperation among schools and introduction and use of topics on intercultural learning and peace building. The project has enabled sharing of best practices on peace building transformative pedagogies, facilitated school exchange and increased the capacities of schools to embrace the above principles. The digital platform will aim at the project sustainability by ensuring the continuity of learning for teachers and school, and getting to know more on the topic of intercultural learning in our region in partnership with our partner RYCO.
